Five slender arms sweep out from a central stem, each holding a small candle lamp beneath one broad drum of faux silk. Because the shade is 60cm across, the light spreads sideways rather than falling in a narrow column, and the pale laminated inner face of the fabric sends it back down over whatever sits below. The satin nickel metalwork stays quiet against the white cloth, reading as a soft ring of light rather than a piece of hardware. Chain suspension means the drop can be set short for a low ceiling or run out much longer over a stairwell.

This is one we reach for over a long dining table, where a single narrow pendant would leave the ends in shadow, and it works just as well in a wide hallway or a landing with height to fill. The lamp holders take small candle lamps, and we would fit LED candle types for the low running cost and the cool, unfussy look inside the shade. Dimming is possible where the lamps themselves are dimmable and a suitable dimmer is used, which suits rooms that shift from homework and cooking in the day to something softer in the evening.

The frame and arms are metal in a satin nickel finish, gently brushed so fingerprints and light scuffs do not show the way they would on a bright plate. The shade is faux silk, gathered smoothly around its ring with a laminated inner face. For upkeep, run a soft clothes brush or the low setting of a vacuum brush over the fabric now and then to lift dust, and give the metal an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth before drying it off. Keep water away from the shade itself. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, so add candle lamps to your basket if you have none spare.

How far below the ceiling will it hang?

The chain and flex allow a drop from 340mm at its shortest to 1800mm at full extension, with a body height of 220mm.

What lamps does it take, and how many?

It takes five E14 lamps, up to 20W each. Candle-shaped LED lamps in the C35 profile are the natural choice and sit neatly within the shade.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer module comes with the pendant.

How wide is the shade?

The drum measures 600mm in diameter and 150mm deep, so allow for that spread when planning above a table.

How do I clean the faux silk?

Dust it dry with a soft brush and avoid sprays, solvents and damp cloths on the fabric. The satin nickel parts can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth and dried.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as dining rooms, halls and bedrooms rather than anywhere exposed to steam or splashing.
