Banyan 5 Light E14 Pendant Light 45cm - Champagne Gold

Five slim arms sweep out from a central column, each ending in an upturned lampholder, so the candle lamps sit openly on view rather than behind a shade. The frame measures 45cm across and keeps its arms level, spreading light wide and evenly instead of throwing it down in one column. The finish is champagne gold, a warm metallic that reads softer and quieter than polished brass. Lampholders are E14, sized for small candle lamps, and we would reach for LED candles here.

The chain suspension lets you set the hanging height to suit the room, sitting up close beneath a modest ceiling or dropping well down over a table. We would hang it centrally above a round dining table, where the circle of arms answers the shape below, though it looks equally at home in a hallway or on a landing. Dimming is possible if you fit dimmable lamps and a matching dimmer. It runs on ordinary household mains and belongs in dry rooms: dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens away from steam.

Arms, ceiling plate and chain all carry the same champagne gold finish, and the frame is light enough in the hand to feel unfussy rather than heavy. Keep it clean by isolating the circuit, letting the lamps cool, then drawing a dry duster along each arm and around the holders; a cloth just damp enough to lift a smear will do for the finish, dried straight away. It carries a one year warranty. Since the arms are open, the lamps you choose do much of the styling work: clear candle lamps for sparkle, opal for a calmer glow. Lamps are not included.

How much length do I have to play with on the drop?

The chain gives a drop of between 340mm and 1800mm, so it can hang tight to the ceiling or well down over a table.

What lamps does it take?

Five E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape suit it best.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided the lamps you fit are dimmable and the dimmer is matched to them. No dimmer is supplied.

How wide is it, and how tall is the body?

It measures 450mm in diameter with a body height of 220mm, so allow a clear circle of that width around the fixing point.

Is it heavy?

No, it weighs 1.7kg complete, which is modest for a five arm pendant of this width.

Does the open design mean glare?

With no shades, the lamps are visible, so choose opal or frosted candle lamps where the pendant hangs at eye level and clear ones where it sits higher.
