Description

Three lamps, one broad fabric shade and a chain suspension finished in polished chrome. The shade is dual faux silk, antique gold on the outer face with a ruby lining, so what falls from it carries a warm red tone while the outside stays softly golden. At 50cm across it reads as a generous shade rather than a slim one, and the chrome chain and ceiling plate give it a bright edge against the fabric. It takes small screw candle lamps on E14 sockets, and we would put LED candles in it.

This is a light for rooms with a bit of ceiling height: over a dining table, in a stairwell or entrance hall, or centred in a sitting room where a shade this wide has space to breathe. The drop can be shortened or let out by adjusting the chain, so it suits both standard ceilings and taller period rooms. Dimming is possible if you choose dimmable lamps and pair them with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting. We would keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms and anywhere steamy.

The metalwork is polished chrome throughout, and the shade is a faux silk over a rigid drum, gold outside and ruby inside. For cleaning, take a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum gently over the fabric to lift dust, then wipe the chrome with a dry cloth once the lamps have gone cold; no sprays or solvents on the silk-effect finish. It carries a one year warranty. Gold and chrome together are easier to live with than they sound, and it sits happily alongside brass picture lights, chrome switch plates or a dark timber table. Lamps are not included.
