Description

Three polished chrome arms sit beneath a single wide shade, 50cm across, made up in faux silk with midnight black on the outside and green olive within. The chrome is bright and reflective rather than brushed, so it catches whatever the olive lining sends back down, and the fitting reads warmer than black on its own would suggest. Each arm takes a small candle lamp on an E14 socket, which keeps the light source tucked well inside the shade.

This is a large pendant and it wants a table or an island under it. Over a dining table it gives a soft, contained pool of light without much spill onto the walls, and the 1.5m chain means you can hang it low over the boards or draw it up tighter for a hallway or a landing. We reach for it in rooms where a glass or metal shade would feel too hard, and where a little colour inside the shade is welcome. With dimmable lamps fitted it will work on a dimmer, which suits long evenings at the table.

The arms and chain are metal in a polished chrome finish, and the shade is fabric, black facing the room and olive facing the light. Keep the shade dry: a soft brush, or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, is all it needs, and the chrome takes a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one. Avoid sprays and solvents anywhere near the fabric. It carries a one year warranty. It is a fitting that softens a room rather than dominating it, and clear or lightly tinted candle lamps suit it best. Lamps are not included.
