Description

Three curved arms sweep out from an antique brass centre and turn upwards, each holding a candle lamp inside one wide drum shade. That shade is dual-layer faux silk, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining, so light warms slightly as it passes down through the fabric. At 50cm across it reads as a broad, low shape rather than a tall one, with the brass hardware left on show where the arms gather beneath the chain. You get a soft downward wash from the open base and a gentle glow through the sides.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the width of the shade covers the length of the table well and the fabric keeps glare off faces. It suits a hallway with height to play with, a large bedroom in place of a bedside pair, or the turn of a stairwell where something broad looks better than something narrow. The 1.5m chain lets you set the drop to suit the room, and taking links out brings it closer to a table for a more intimate pool of light. Fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer if you want to pull the level right down after dark.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, lightly aged so it sits happily with warm timber, brick and deeper wall colours. Faux silk asks for very little: a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum lifts dust from the outer face, and it is better to leave a mark than to damp it. An occasional pass over the brass with a dry duster keeps the tone even. It is wired for a normal household circuit and belongs in dry rooms, away from bathrooms and porches. E14 candle lamps are sold separately here. It carries a one year warranty.

How many lamps does it take, and what size?

It takes three E14 candle lamps, ideally the slim C35 shape, rated up to 20W each. LED candles are what we would choose.

Can I hang it lower or higher?

Yes. The chain allows a drop between 340mm and 1800mm measured to the base of the shade, so you can set it high in a hall or low over a table.

What are the shade dimensions?

The drum shade is 500mm in diameter and 200mm deep, with the metal arm assembly standing 220mm tall.

Is the shade real silk?

No, it is faux silk, taupe on the outer face with a halo gold inner lining that gives the light a warm cast.
