Description

A wide faux silk drum hangs over three inward-facing lamp arms, so the light is gathered and softened by the fabric before it reaches the room. The outer face is raw cocoa, with grecian bronze on the inside, and the metalwork is antique brass with a warm aged sheen. At 50cm across, the shade reads as the main light in a room rather than a quiet addition. We would fit LED candle lamps in the E14 sockets, which stay neatly out of sight behind the fabric.

It hangs on a chain, and the drop can be taken up or let out to suit the height of the ceiling, which makes it as workable over a long dining table as it is in a hall with room above the door. Bedrooms suit it too, where the fabric keeps the light gentle rather than sharp. Fit dimmable lamps and it will dim on a suitable circuit, though the lamps and the dimmer switch are chosen separately. It is a light we point people towards when a single small pendant has looked lost in a big room.

The arms and ceiling plate are metal in the antique brass finish, and the shade is a dual faux silk, lined so the inner tone shows when you look up into it. Looking after it takes little: run a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head lightly over the fabric now and then to lift dust, and use a dry cloth on the brass. Polishes and aerosol cleaners will flatten the aged finish, so leave them in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. Paired with warm-toned wood or deep painted walls it settles in quickly, and it is worth choosing clear candle lamps if you like a little sparkle through the fabric. Lamps are not included.
