Three arms sweep out from a slim antique brass stem, each carrying a small candle lamp beneath one wide drum shade in faux silk. Because the shade spans 50cm, the light spreads broad and soft rather than narrow and directional. The outer face is a warm nude beige that glows gently once the lamps are on, while the paler moonlight lining reflects light back down. It hangs on a chain, and the drop can be taken up short or let out long to suit the room.

We would hang this over a dining table, a kitchen island or a round table set in a bay window, where a generous shade at ceiling height gives even light across the whole surface without cluttering the view. It works equally well in a sitting room or a wide hallway with height to spare. Three lamps behind a single shade give a decent, unfussy pool of light for a room of proper size, and it will dim if you fit dimmable candle lamps and run them from a dimmer switch. It is one we reach for when a row of small pendants would look too busy.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and softly aged rather than bright and showy, and the shade is a dual-layer faux silk with the lining in the paler tone. Keep the fabric fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on low, following the seams; the brass asks for nothing beyond an occasional dry cloth, and no polish or spray. This is a fitting for dry rooms inside the house, not for a bathroom or a porch. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and we would choose LED candles here so the shade stays cool and the colour reads true.

What lamps does it take, and how many?

It takes three E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. We would fit LED candles in the C35 shape, which sit neatly under the shade.

How far down does it hang?

The chain gives a drop between 340mm and 1800mm, so it can be set high in a room with a standard ceiling or dropped low over a dining table.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and use a suitable dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.

What is the shade made from?

A faux silk in two layers, nude beige on the outside with a paler moonlight lining. It measures 50cm across and 20cm deep.

How do I clean the shade without marking it?

Dust it dry. A soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on the lowest setting lifts dust from the weave. Avoid water and cleaning sprays, as fabric of this kind can watermark.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry indoor rooms such as dining rooms, kitchens, sitting rooms and hallways.
