Description

A wide fabric drum sits on three slender arms, so the light spreads across a table rather than falling in one narrow pool. The shade is 50cm across, deep enough to keep the lamps out of view from most seated angles, and the outer face is a dark midnight black faux silk with an olive green lining that lends a little warmth to the light as it comes down. Metalwork is matt black from the ceiling plate to the candle lampholders.

We reach for this one over a dining table or a kitchen island, where a broad shade earns its keep and a cluster of small pendants would feel busy. The drop can be set short for a low ceiling or run long over a stairwell void, which makes it easy to place. Small E14 candle lamps are the right choice here, and we would use LED versions; fit dimmable lamps if the room is on a dimmer, since the fitting itself does not decide that.
