Description

Three slender arms sweep outward from a satin nickel centre and lift a single wide drum shade above them. The shade is faux silk in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate so the light falls soft and warm rather than sharp. At 50cm across it reads as a generous piece, while the shallow depth keeps it looking light for its width. It hangs on chain, so the drop can be set to suit the room and the furniture below.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the width sits well against a six seater and the shade pushes light out across the cloth as well as down onto it. It does the same job nicely as the main light in a bedroom or above a wide landing. Three E14 candle lamps sit inside, and LED candles are what we reach for here; choose dimmable ones and pair them with a compatible dimmer if you want the level brought down after a meal. The 1.5m chain leaves plenty of scope in rooms with taller ceilings.

The frame is metal in a satin nickel finish, a quieter sheen than chrome and kinder to fingermarks. The fabric holds its shape well, and the pearl tone picks up whatever warmth is in the lamps you choose. For care, switch off at the wall first, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, then give the metalwork a light wipe with a dry cloth. Keep it to dry indoor rooms rather than a bathroom or a covered porch. It carries a one year warranty.
