Description

Three arms fan out beneath a broad drum shade in black faux silk, lined in white laminate so light reflects down clean and even. Stem, arms and chain carry an antique brass finish, an aged, slightly warm metal tone that sits well against the dark fabric. At 50cm across, it hangs as a wide, low-profile shade rather than a slim single drop.

We would hang it over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the width of the shade matches the width of the surface below, and it earns its keep in a wide hallway too. The chain measures 1.5m and can be taken up link by link, so the drop suits a tall stairwell or an ordinary ceiling height equally. In a bedroom it works over a chest of drawers or at the foot of the bed, given the ceiling allows. Candle lamps sit on the arms and share the work, which gives a softer, better spread light across a table than a single bulb in the middle. Dimming is possible with dimmable lamps, though no dimmer comes with it.

The shade is a faux silk laminate, black on the outside and white within, which keeps the light from picking up colour as it comes down. Care is a light job: brush dust from the fabric with a soft dry brush, keep damp cloths away from it, and give the brass a dry wipe now and again. Best kept to dry rooms indoors rather than bathrooms or porches. It carries a one year warranty. We pair it with clear candle lamps if you like a little sparkle inside the shade, or opaque ones for a plainer look from below. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it take?

Three E14 lamps, up to 20W each. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape are the ones we would fit.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

Yes, provided the lamps you fit are dimmable. A dimmer is not supplied with the pendant.

How should I clean the fabric shade?

A soft dry brush or a gentle vacuum on low will lift dust from the faux silk. Avoid water, sprays and cleaning fluids, which can mark the laminate.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it to living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and hallways.
