Description

Three arms reach out beneath a single wide drum shade, so the light is shared across the width of the fitting rather than gathered tightly. The shade is faux silk in white, 45cm across and shallow in profile, with a white laminate lining that keeps the tone even once the lamps are lit. The metalwork is satin nickel, a soft grey sheen that sits quietly against a pale ceiling. Suspension is by chain, 1.5m of it supplied, so the finished height can be set to suit the room.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the width of the shade covers the setting and the arms keep the brightness soft rather than glaring. It suits a hallway with height to spare, a landing, or a bedroom where a central fitting wants to look furnished rather than plain. Each arm takes a small E14 lamp, and candle LEDs are what we would choose here; if the circuit runs through a dimmer, fit dimmable lamps to match. The shallow shade helps in rooms where a deeper drum would feel heavy overhead.

The shade is fabric over a laminate liner, so it prefers dry handling: a soft brush or duster over the outside now and then, and no damp cloths or sprays, which mark faux silk.
