Banyan 3 Light E14 Pendant Light 45cm Ivory Pearl - Matt Black

A single wide drum of faux silk hangs from three inward-facing arms, so the light gathers behind one soft shade rather than scattering across several small ones. The stem, arms and canopy are matt black, a quiet counterweight to the pale ivory pearl fabric, and the inside of the shade is a white laminate that pushes light downwards. At 45cm across it holds the middle of a room without dominating it, and the shallow drum keeps it looking light for its size.

We would hang it over a dining table, a kitchen island or a round hall table, anywhere you want an even wash of light rather than several separate pools. The drop can be set short where a ceiling is low or left long where there is height to play with, so it works as happily in an older sitting room as in a new flat. It takes three E14 candle lamps and we would choose LED candles for it; pick dimmable ones if you want the level to come down in the evening, as no dimmer comes with the fitting. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, so a bathroom or a covered porch is better served by something else.

The shade is faux silk in ivory pearl with a white laminate lining, and the metalwork carries an even matt black with no shine to catch the light. Keep the fabric dry: a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum lifts dust from the outside, and the black parts want nothing more than a dry cloth once the lamps have gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. Against dark cabinetry or a deep wall colour the ivory reads warm, while over pale timber it settles quietly into the background until it is lit. Lamps are not included.

How big is the shade?

The drum measures 450mm across and 150mm deep, with the body of the fitting standing 220mm tall.

What lamps does it take?

Three E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candles in the C35 shape are the ones we would fit, and lamps are not supplied with the pendant.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided the lamps you fit are dimmable and you have a suitable dimmer. No dimmer is included.

How low will it hang?

The drop runs from 340mm at its shortest to 1800mm at its longest, so it can sit close under a low ceiling or fall well down over a table.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means dry interior rooms only, away from splashes and steam.

How do I clean the fabric shade?

Dust it dry with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery tool. Avoid water, sprays and solvents, which can mark faux silk and lift the laminate lining.
