Description

Three lamps sit under a single wide drum shade here, faux silk in ivory pearl with a white laminate lining. The stem and base are finished in satin nickel, a soft grey sheen that sits quietly against pale walls and mid-tone woods alike. A foot switch on the flex means you turn it on without bending down, which matters more than it sounds once the lamp is standing behind an armchair.

The shade measures 50cm across, wide enough to light a whole reading corner rather than a single page, so the light falls across a sofa arm and a side table together. We reach for a floor lamp like this in sitting rooms where there is no ceiling point in the right spot, and in bedrooms where a bedside lamp would crowd the table. It takes E14 candle lamps, and LED candles are what we would choose for it. Fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer and the level can be brought right down for the evening.

The frame and base are metal, double insulated, with the fabric shade carried above. Keep the shade dry and lift dust off it with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum; the nickel needs no more than a dry cloth, and the odd gentle buff keeps the sheen even across the stem.
