Two candle lampholders sit side by side on a shared backplate, with a rocker switch built into the fitting so the light can be worked where it hangs rather than from across the room. It comes without shades, which hands you the say over how it finally looks: small clip shades in linen, or a pair of little glass cups, both suit the proportions. At roughly 24cm across it stays neat against a wall, and the projection is shallow enough that it will not crowd a narrow run of hallway.

We reach for a switched pair like this beside a bed, where a table lamp would eat the surface and a trailing cord switch is a nuisance. It earns its keep in a hallway too, on either side of a mirror, or above a small chest in a spare room. Each lamp takes up to 20W, and E14 candle lamps are what we would choose for it; if you want the level to come down of an evening, use dimmable lamps with a suitable dimmer.

The champagne gold finish is warmer and quieter than a bright brass, and it reads well against off-white walls, deep greens and dark timber alike. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not made for a bathroom or anywhere it might be splashed. For cleaning, a dry duster over the fitting is plenty, with polish and sprays kept well away from the finish, and lamps left to cool before you change them. It carries a one year warranty. Neither lamps nor shades are included, so you can match both to whatever is already in the room.

What lamps does it take?

Two E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candles in the C35 shape are the ones we would put in it. They are not supplied with the fitting.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and use them with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is supplied.

Is there a switch on the light itself?

There is, a rocker switch on the fitting, so you can turn it on and off at the wall rather than only from a room switch.

How much space does it need?

It measures 242mm wide and 175mm high, and stands 143mm out from the wall, so it sits close and works either side of a bed or a mirror.

Does it come with shades?

No. It is sold as the switched fitting alone, ready for small E14 candle shades of your choosing, whether fabric clip shades or glass.

How should I clean it?

Switch off first and let the lamps cool, then dust with a soft dry cloth. Avoid metal polish, solvents and household sprays, which can mark the finish.
