Description

The AV:Link HDMI coupler is a female-to-female adapter with HDMI sockets at both ends, designed to join two standard HDMI cables into a single extended run. The coupler supports video resolutions up to 3840 x 2160p (4K) and uses gold-plated contacts to maintain signal integrity across the join.

Used where a single HDMI cable is too short to reach between a source device and a display, the coupler allows two existing cables to be connected end-to-end without needing to replace either cable. Common applications include extending runs between wall-mounted TVs and AV receivers, projectors and media players, or games consoles and displays where furniture layout or room dimensions prevent a direct single-cable connection.

The moulded plastic body measures approximately 40mm long and provides strain relief at both socket ends, reducing wear on the cable plugs when the coupler is used in semi-permanent installations behind furniture or within wall cavities. The compact form factor allows the join to sit close to walls or within cable management channels without requiring significant clearance space.

Frequently Asked

Does this support 4K at 60Hz?

The coupler supports 4K resolution up to 3840 x 2160p. Whether it passes 60Hz refresh rate depends on the HDMI version of the cables being joined — the coupler itself is passive and does not limit refresh rate beyond what the connected cables support.

Will it work with older HDMI cables?

Yes. The coupler is backwards-compatible with all HDMI cable versions (1.4, 2.0, 2.1). The final signal capability is determined by the oldest component in the chain, whether that's the source device, the cables, or the display.

Can it be used to join two long HDMI cables?

HDMI signal degradation increases with cable length. Joining two cables via a passive coupler creates a longer total run, which may result in dropouts or loss of picture quality on runs exceeding 10-15m total length, particularly at 4K resolution. For runs beyond this, an active HDMI repeater or booster is recommended instead of a passive coupler.
