Description
European plugs will not go into a British socket, and this is the small piece that solves it. It takes a two pin continental plug at one end and presents the British three pin pattern at the other, so an imported lamp can be brought into use here without cutting into its lead. The housing is clear from end to end, which keeps it discreet where a plug sits in full view, and it is rated at 3A, so it belongs with table lamps, chargers and other light loads rather than anything that heats or drives a motor. It needs an earth connection.
We keep it for the situation that comes up again and again: a lamp bought abroad, a fitting shipped in from a European maker, or a piece from a holiday flat that has arrived home with the wrong plug on it. Renters find it useful because nothing about the appliance changes, and we reach for it ourselves when a sample arrives at the shop and we want it lit on the bench the same afternoon. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, on a normal household supply, and give it a socket it can sit in squarely rather than one crowded by a bulky adaptor.
The clear finish shows the pins and the internals, so you can see at a glance that everything is seated properly. At 23mm across it takes up little room on a double socket, leaving the second position usable. To clean it, pull it from the socket first, then wipe the outside with a dry cloth and leave the pins alone; no sprays or damp cloths near the contacts. It carries a three year warranty. Alongside it we stock a clear plugtop in the same family, cable grips in clear and black, and IEC leads, so a European fitting can be brought fully into line with British practice.

Frequently Asked
What load can I use it with?
It is rated at 3A, which covers table and floor lamps, small chargers and similar low draw items. Anything with a heating element or a motor needs a converter rated well above this.
Does it change the appliance in any way?
No. The European plug stays on the lead and simply pushes into the converter, so the appliance can be taken abroad again unaltered.
How big is it?
It measures 49mm long, 23mm wide and 52mm high, so it sits close to the socket face without blocking the second position on a double.
Is it earthed?
Yes, it is a Class 1 fitting and requires an earth connection, which it carries through from the socket.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 and suited only to dry indoor rooms, away from splashes and damp.
How should I clean it?
Take it out of the socket, then wipe the clear body with a dry cloth. Keep moisture and cleaning sprays away from the pins and contacts.
