Description

Small, white and undemanding, this is the part that gets a continental plug and a British socket working together. It is rated at 3A, which suits table lamps, floor lamps and similar light loads rather than anything hungry. It is built as a Class 1 item, so the earth connection carries through rather than stopping at the adaptor. The white body is plain enough to vanish behind a sideboard or a bedside table, and nothing about it needs learning: it goes in, the plug goes into it, and that is the job done.

We sell these to people who have carried a lamp home from a trip, or ordered a fitting from a European maker and found the flex ends in the wrong plug. It spares you cutting off a perfectly good cord. It earns its keep in holiday lets, rented flats and offices where kit arrives from all over, and it travels well in a bag or a drawer. Where a lamp is going to stay in one spot for years, a UK plugtop is the tidier long-term answer; for anything that moves around the house, we reach for this instead.

It is a small thing, so it sits neatly in a double socket without shouldering aside the plug beside it. Keep it to dry indoor rooms, away from steam and splashes. Cleaning asks nothing more than pulling it clear of the socket and wiping the body over with a dry cloth. It carries a three year warranty. We keep it alongside the other bits and pieces in the same range that we hold for lamp repairs and rebuilds: white and black lampholders, adjustable converter lampholders, cable grips, IEC leads and a clear plugtop, so a tired lamp can be put right in one order.

Frequently Asked

What load will it take?

It is rated at 3A, so it is intended for table and floor lamps and similarly light loads. Heating appliances, kettles and anything drawing heavily are not suitable.

Is the earth carried through?

Yes. It is a Class 1 part and requires an earth connection, so the earth path continues through the converter rather than ending at it.

Can I use it in a bathroom, a kitchen worktop area or outdoors?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry indoor rooms only, well away from splashes, sinks and steam.

Does it come with a lamp or a lampholder?

No. This is purely a plug converter. If you need a holder as well, we stock E27 and GU10 lampholders in the same range.

How should I clean it?

Pull it from the socket first, then wipe the casing with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning sprays, and leave the pins untouched.

Is there a warranty?

It carries a three year warranty.
