Description

A neat black plug top with a single USB output, for the small charging jobs that crop up in a room you have just relamped. It gives 5V at 1A, which is enough for a phone left overnight, a bedside clock, a USB reading light or the sort of small item that lives on a shelf and needs a tidy supply of its own. At 17mm across, the body is slim enough that it does not crowd the second socket on a twin plate. It is double insulated, and there is no dimming.

We would pick it for bedrooms, home offices and spare rooms, where the sockets are already busy and a chunky charger tends to block half of them. It suits holiday lets and guest rooms too, since it hands a visitor somewhere to charge without them hunting through a drawer. Landlords and anyone fitting out a small flat often buy more than one, and we keep it in black so it stays quiet against dark switchplates and painted walls.

The casing is black throughout, in a plain finish that sits happily next to white or metal socket fronts. It weighs very little, so it lifts out cleanly when a room is cleared or a lead is packed away. Looking after it asks almost nothing: unplug it first, then run a dry cloth over the casing and around the USB port to lift dust, and never let it stand in damp.
