Description

Six rockers sit in a row across one wide plate, each wired two way so it can pair with another switch further along a hall or at the top of the stairs. The front is screwless, which leaves the plum face clean and unbroken, and the rockers are chrome, so they catch what light there is and stay easy to find in the dark. Each one clicks positively under the thumb.

A plate with this many gangs earns its keep where circuits gather at the same point: the bottom of the stairs, a hallway that feeds porch, landing and cloakroom, or a kitchen where the ceiling, the worktop and the island are all switched separately. It saves a wall from filling up with plates in a row. We would choose it for a house being redecorated room by room, where the plum works with painted or papered walls rather than trying to vanish into them. It is for indoor use, on household lighting circuits.

The plate is moulded polycarbonate with metal parts behind it, double insulated, and made to the British standard for switches. The colour runs through the finish rather than sitting on top as a coat of paint. To clean it, turn the lighting circuit off, wipe the plate with a cloth wrung out in warm water, then dry it before switching back on; keep sprays and kitchen creams away from the rockers, as they can dull the surface. It carries a ten year warranty. Coloured plates look best used consistently, so if you are putting plum on the hall switches, carry it through to the ones on the landing.
