Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch combines a 45-amp double-pole switch for controlling a cooker circuit with a 13A switched socket outlet, both behind a matt black screwless faceplate with a black insert. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, allowing safe maintenance or cleaning of cooking appliances without needing to switch off at the consumer unit. Red neon indicators on both the 45A switch and the 13A socket show when each circuit is live.

Designed for kitchen installation within 2 metres of a cooker or hob, the unit allows a single control point for isolating the main cooking appliance while providing a convenient 13A outlet for smaller kitchen appliances such as kettles, microwaves or slow cookers. The 13A socket is independently switched from the 45A cooker control, so the cooker can be isolated without affecting devices plugged into the socket. The 45A rating handles electric cookers and hobs drawing up to 10.35kW on a 230V supply.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The matt black finish is powder-coated onto premium-grade steel, providing a non-reflective surface that resists fingerprints and pairs cleanly with black, grey and industrial kitchen schemes. A built-in gasket around the edge of the sub-frame prevents plaster dust entering the back box during installation. The unit requires a 47mm minimum back box depth and carries BS 4177 and BS 1363-2 certification.

Frequently Asked

What's the purpose of the 45A switch and neon indicator?

The 45A double-pole switch isolates the cooker circuit, cutting both live and neutral lines to allow safe maintenance, cleaning or appliance replacement without switching off at the consumer unit. The red neon indicator shows when the circuit is live, even when the cooker itself is turned off at its own controls.

Can the 13A socket be used while the cooker switch is off?

Yes. The 13A socket is independently switched and supplied from a separate circuit. You can isolate the cooker using the 45A switch while still using the 13A socket for kettles, microwaves or other kitchen appliances.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds approximately 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or tiling around the unit and re-clipped without re-wiring. The built-in gasket prevents plaster dust entering the back box during installation or redecoration.
