Description
Four rockers sit on one square plate, each switching its own lighting circuit, so a single point by the door can take charge of a room and the spaces leading off it. The two way action lets any of the four be wired as a pair with another switch elsewhere, which is what you want at the head and foot of a staircase or at either end of a long hallway. The plate is screwless, so nothing breaks up the copper face, and chrome rockers are set into it for contrast.
We reach for a four gang plate where lighting has been split into layers and the switching would otherwise sprawl across two plates: a kitchen with pendants, undercupboard lighting and a run of downlights, or a hallway that also controls the landing and porch. The plate measures 88mm square, which keeps the footprint tidy for the number of circuits it handles. It is intended for lighting circuits in the home, indoors, on a standard UK mains supply, and it is not one for a bathroom zone or an outbuilding.
The body is moulded polycarbonate with a metal front, double insulated, and made to the British standard for switches. The copper is a metallic finish, so treat it as you would a copper tap: a dry lint free cloth for fingerprints, and nothing abrasive or solvent based, since scouring creams and spray polishes will dull the sheen over time. It carries a ten year warranty. Copper reads warm against off white paint, oak and darker greens, and looks settled in a room where the taps, handles or pendant shades already lean towards copper or brass. If you are switching plates across a whole house, we would keep one finish running through the hallway and living spaces and let the utility rooms differ.

Frequently Asked
What does 4 gang mean here?
It means four separate switches on one plate, each controlling its own lighting circuit independently of the others.
Can I use it as a one way switch?
Yes. A two way switch can be wired for simple one way switching, or paired with a second switch so either position controls the same light.
What is the current rating?
Each gang is rated 10AX, which suits domestic lighting circuits.
What size is the plate?
It is 88mm by 88mm, standard square plate proportions, and 25mm deep behind the face.
What are the rockers made from?
The rockers are chrome finished, set into a copper faced metal plate over a polycarbonate body.
How should I clean it?
Dust with a soft dry cloth. Keep cleaning sprays, polishes and abrasive pastes away from the copper, as they mark metallic finishes.
