Description

The Knightsbridge CL2194BC is a 4-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated at 10-200W per gang for incandescent and halogen loads, or 5-150W per gang for dimmable LED and CFL lamps. Each rotary control operates independently, allowing four separate lighting zones to be dimmed from a single wall plate. The dimmer switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via the front control knob, providing compatibility with a wide range of lamp technologies without removing the plate from the wall.

Designed for residential, hospitality and commercial installation where multi-zone dimming is needed from a single location, the 4-gang configuration suits open-plan kitchens with separate task, ambient and accent lighting circuits, hotel rooms with bedside, desk and wardrobe lighting, or conference rooms with independently controlled ceiling zones. The 2-way wiring allows the same lighting load to be dimmed from two separate locations when paired with a compatible 2-way switch. The push-on/push-off rotary action provides tactile control, with rotation adjusting brightness and a press switching the load on or off.

Each gang includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the initial power surge when switching on high-capacitance LED drivers. The brushed chrome finish on premium-grade steel provides a satin metallic surface that resists fingerprints better than polished chrome, with rounded edges giving a softer profile than squared plates. The plate projects 7.5mm from the wall when fitted to a 25mm minimum back box depth. What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?

Trailing-edge (default on this dimmer) works with most dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen transformers by cutting the trailing edge of the AC waveform. Leading-edge cuts the leading edge and suits resistive loads like incandescent and mains-voltage halogen. The dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge and can be switched to leading-edge mode via the front control knob if needed for compatibility with specific lamp types.

Can I mix LED and halogen lamps on the same gang?

No. Knightsbridge specifies that all lamps controlled by a single gang must be the same brand, wattage and technology. Mixing brands or wattages causes inconsistent dimming curves and can lead to flicker, buzzing or premature lamp failure due to driver incompatibility.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The plate projects 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total installed depth of approximately 32.5mm from the rear of the back box to the front of the faceplate.

How do I adjust the minimum brightness level?

The trim control is accessed via the front of the plate using the control knob. Rotate the knob fully anticlockwise to access the trim setting, which adjusts the minimum brightness level to prevent flicker or lamp drop-out at low dim levels.
