Description
The Knightsbridge SF2194BN is a 4-gang intelligent dimmer switch handling loads from 10-200W per gang for halogen or incandescent lamps, or 5-150W per gang for dimmable LED. The dimmer switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via a front-panel control knob, allowing it to be adjusted for compatibility with different lamp technologies without removing the faceplate or re-wiring. Each gang has a push on/off function and rotary dimming control.
Designed for residential installation in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms where multi-zone dimming is needed, the dimmer suits circuits controlling pendant lights, wall lights, downlights and table lamps fitted with dimmable LED or halogen bulbs. The screwless black nickel faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame and includes matching black nickel dimmer caps for each rotary control. The 25mm minimum back box depth fits standard UK mounting boxes for single or twin-gang positions when ganged together.
The intelligent dimmer includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the initial power surge when LED lamps are switched on. Trailing-edge mode is the default setting and suits most modern dimmable LEDs, while leading-edge mode provides compatibility with older halogen transformers and certain resistive loads. Trimming and mode switching are controlled from the front of the plate via the control knobs, making it straightforward to re-adjust if lamps are changed or fittings upgraded without re-wiring the circuit.
The black nickel finish provides a dark metallic accent that reads as charcoal-grey under most lighting conditions, pairing well with modern interiors, industrial-style schemes and monochrome palettes. The screwless cover plate conceals all fixing screws behind the faceplate for a cleaner wall finish than traditional screw-fixed plates. Note that all lamps controlled by a single gang must be the same brand, wattage and technology — mixing different lamp types or wattages on the same gang will cause flicker or incompatibility.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?
Trailing-edge mode is the default and suits most modern dimmable LED lamps. Leading-edge mode is for older halogen transformers and certain resistive loads like incandescent bulbs. The dimmer can be switched between modes via the front control knob without removing the faceplate.
Can I mix LED and halogen lamps on the same gang?
No. All lamps controlled by a single gang must be the same brand, wattage and technology. Mixing different lamp types or wattages on the same gang will cause flicker, buzzing or incompatibility.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, with a 21.3mm recessed depth behind the wall surface.
How do I adjust the dimmer if I change the lamps?
Trimming, mode switching and resetting are all controlled from the front of the plate via the control knobs. If you change lamp types or fittings, you can adjust the dimmer mode and trim settings without removing the faceplate or re-wiring.
