Description

The Knightsbridge CL2194MBB is a 4-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer supporting 10-200W incandescent loads or 5-150W LED loads per gang, controlled via four rotary knobs on a matt black rounded-edge faceplate. Each gang can switch between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming modes using the control knob itself, allowing the dimmer to adapt to different lamp types without requiring plate removal or rewiring.

Designed for residential and hospitality lighting where individual circuit control is needed across four zones or four separate fittings, the dimmer suits downlighters, wall lights, pendant circuits and table lamp circuits on a single plate. The 2-way wiring configuration allows the same circuits to be dimmed from two locations, pairing this plate with standard 2-way intermediate switches elsewhere in the room. Each knob provides push on/off action and rotary dimming, with the dimming level stored in memory when switched off.

The intelligent dimming mechanism includes overload protection, overheat protection and an inrush current limiter to handle the initial surge when LED lamps are switched on. Trim adjustment, mode switching and reset functions are all accessible from the front of the plate via the control knobs, so recalibration after changing a lamp or fitting does not require dismounting the faceplate. The matt black finish on premium-grade steel provides a low-glare surface that pairs with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors, and the rounded-edge profile sits 7.5mm proud of the wall once fitted to a 25mm back box.

Each gang must control lamps of the same brand, type and wattage — mixed lamp brands or mixed wattages on a single gang will cause flickering or failure to dim smoothly. The dimmer is preset to trailing-edge mode on installation, which suits most LED retrofit lamps, and can be switched to leading-edge mode where older transformers or specific lamp types require it.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?

Trailing-edge dimming (the preset mode) suits most modern LED retrofit lamps and electronic transformers. Leading-edge dimming suits older magnetic transformers and some incandescent loads. If an LED lamp flickers or buzzes on trailing-edge, switch the gang to leading-edge mode using the control knob.

Can I mix different lamp brands on one gang?

No. Each gang must control lamps of the same brand, type and wattage. Mixing brands or wattages on a single circuit will cause uneven dimming, flickering or failure to dim smoothly. This is a limitation of all intelligent dimmers, not specific to this model.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The plate projects 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 32.5mm from the wall surface to the back of the back box.

How do I adjust the minimum dim level?

Turn the knob fully anticlockwise to the minimum position, then press and hold the knob for approximately 5 seconds until the lamp flickers. Release, then rotate the knob to set the new minimum dim level. Press the knob briefly to save the setting. Full instructions are in the specification sheet.
