Description

The Knightsbridge 4-gang intelligent dimmer controls four independent lighting zones from a single flat plate, handling 10-200W incandescent or halogen loads (5-150W LED) per zone. Each rotary control switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via a control knob on the front of the plate, allowing the dimmer to be reconfigured for different lamp types without removing the faceplate or accessing the back box.

Designed for rooms with multiple lighting circuits — living rooms with table lamps, wall lights, downlights and feature lighting on separate zones — the 4-gang dimmer replaces four individual dimmer switches with a single control plate. Push the knob to switch on or off, rotate to dim. The trailing-edge mode (preset as default) suits most LED bulbs and electronic transformers, while the leading-edge mode handles resistive loads like incandescent bulbs and wire-wound transformers.

The pearl finish is a soft metallic grey with a low-sheen surface that sits between polished chrome and brushed stainless in tone, pairing well with grey, white and cool-toned contemporary interiors. The flat plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted to a 25mm minimum back box, giving a lower profile than raised-edge or curved dimmer plates. The dimmer includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to prevent nuisance tripping when the lights are switched on.

Each zone must use identical lamp types (same brand, same wattage) — mixing different LED brands or wattages on the same zone will cause flicker or inconsistent dimming. The dimmer is compatible with most major LED brands when used in trailing-edge mode, but compatibility should be verified with the lamp manufacturer if using specialist low-voltage or high-output LED fittings.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode suits most LED bulbs and electronic transformers by cutting the trailing edge of the AC waveform. Leading-edge mode suits resistive loads like incandescent bulbs and wire-wound transformers. This dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge mode and can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob without removing the faceplate.

Can I mix different lamp types on the same zone?

No. Each of the four zones must use identical lamps — same brand, same wattage. Mixing different LED brands or wattages on a single zone causes flicker, buzzing or inconsistent dimming. The four zones can use different lamp types from each other, but each zone must be internally consistent.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The flat plate adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

How do I reset or trim the dimmer?

All trim, mode switching and reset functions are accessible from the front of the plate via the control knob. Refer to the Product Specification Sheet in the Downloads tab for the specific knob combinations to enter setup mode and adjust settings.
