Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch controls power and lighting in hotel rooms, serviced apartments and student accommodation via insertion of a room card. The switch activates the room's electrical circuits when a card is inserted and cuts power to non-essential circuits 30 seconds after the card is withdrawn, reducing energy consumption when the room is unoccupied.

The screwless matt white faceplate measures 87.5mm square and clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that fixes to a 47mm minimum back box. The 4.3mm projection from the wall gives a low-profile appearance that suits modern commercial interiors. A backlit pink arrow above the card slot provides visual guidance for card insertion in dark rooms, and the neon indicator confirms when the switch is active.

The 32A rating handles the combined load of multiple circuits typically found in a hotel room, including lighting, sockets, air conditioning control and bathroom heating. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries an IP20 rating for indoor use. The matt white finish provides a neutral appearance that integrates with white or light-coloured wall treatments without the reflections of a polished or gloss finish.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed. The switch has a recessed depth of 31.5mm and the screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted.

How does the power delay work?

When the room card is withdrawn, the switch waits 30 seconds before cutting power to circuits wired through it. This delay allows guests time to exit the room without lights going out immediately.

What circuits does it control?

The switch is typically wired to control room lighting, socket circuits, air conditioning control and bathroom heating. It does not usually control safety circuits such as smoke alarms or emergency lighting, which remain powered independently.

Can the screwless plate be removed for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
