Description

The Knightsbridge CL2193MBB is a 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer handling 10-200W per gang for traditional incandescent or halogen loads, or 5-150W per gang for dimmable LED and CFL lamps. Each gang features a rotary control knob with push on/off action, allowing independent dimming of three separate lighting circuits from a single faceplate.

The dimmer switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via the front control knobs, providing compatibility across a wide range of dimmable lamp types without removing the faceplate. Trailing-edge mode suits most LED and low-voltage halogen loads, while leading-edge mode works with older resistive loads and some transformers. All mode switching, trim adjustment and reset functions are accessed from the front of the plate, so changes to lamp types or fittings can be accommodated without rewiring.

The matt black rounded-edge faceplate is pressed from premium-grade steel with a low-sheen finish that resists fingerprints and pairs comfortably with contemporary, industrial and minimalist interiors. The matching matt black control knobs sit flush with the plate surface, maintaining a clean profile with 7.5mm total projection from the wall. Fitted with overload protection, overheat protection and an inrush current limiter (ICL) to handle the initial surge when LEDs are switched on.

The dimmer requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and fits standard UK 2-way wiring configurations, allowing control of the same lighting circuit from two separate switch positions. Each gang must control lamps of the same brand and wattage within that circuit — mixed lamp brands or mixed wattages on the same gang can cause flicker or incompatibility.

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode suits most dimmable LED lamps, dimmable CFLs and low-voltage halogen with electronic transformers. Leading-edge mode works with traditional incandescent, mains-voltage halogen and low-voltage halogen with magnetic (wire-wound) transformers. The dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge mode and can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob if needed for lamp compatibility.

Can I mix different lamp brands on the same gang?

No. Each gang must control lamps of the same brand and wattage. Mixing different lamp brands or different wattages on the same circuit can cause flicker, inconsistent dimming or failure to dim at all. Use lamps from the same manufacturer and batch where possible.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The faceplate adds 7.5mm projection from the wall once fitted, so total installation depth from the wall surface to the back of the back box is 32.5mm.

Is this suitable for bathrooms?

The dimmer carries an IP20 rating, meaning it's not protected against moisture ingress. It's suitable for general indoor use in dry locations only, not for bathroom zones where splash protection is required.
