Description

The Knightsbridge CS2193BC is a 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer supporting 10-200W incandescent and halogen loads or 5-150W dimmable LED and CFL loads per gang. Each gang operates independently via a push on/off, rotary dimming knob, and the dimmer can switch between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes from the front of the plate to match different lamp types without removing it from the wall.

Designed for residential and hospitality installations where multiple lighting circuits need independent dimming control, the dimmer fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses a brushed chrome square-edge faceplate with matching metal control knobs. The 2-way wiring allows the same lighting circuit to be controlled from two locations, making it suitable for hallways, staircases and larger rooms with entry points at either end.

The intelligent dimming circuitry includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the initial power surge when switching on. Trim adjustment, mode switching and reset functions are all accessible from the front control knobs, so the dimmer can be reconfigured if lamps are changed without rewiring. The brushed chrome finish shows a linear grain texture that hides fingerprints better than polished chrome and pairs with both contemporary and traditional interiors.

The dimmer must be used with dimmable lamps only, and all lamps on a single gang must be the same brand, type and wattage to avoid compatibility issues and flickering. Mixing LED brands or wattages on one circuit will cause erratic dimming behaviour.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge mode?

Trailing-edge mode (the factory preset) suits most dimmable LED and CFL lamps and provides smoother dimming with less flicker. Leading-edge mode suits traditional incandescent and halogen lamps. The dimmer ships in trailing-edge mode, but you can switch modes using the front control knob if your lamps flicker or fail to dim smoothly.

Can I mix LED and halogen lamps on the same gang?

No. Each gang must use the same lamp type, brand and wattage. Mixing different lamp technologies, brands or wattages on a single circuit causes compatibility issues, flickering and inconsistent dimming. If you need to control mixed lamp types, they must be on separate gangs.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 35.5mm from the back of the back box to the front of the control knobs.

Is this compatible with smart bulbs like Philips Hue?

No. Smart bulbs require constant mains voltage to maintain their wireless connection and internal dimming circuitry. Using a dimmer switch with smart bulbs will cause them to disconnect from their hub and fail to respond to app control. For smart bulbs, use a standard switch or leave the circuit permanently live.
