Description

The Knightsbridge 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer controls three separate lighting zones from a single polished chrome flat plate, each zone handling 10-200W for incandescent, halogen or 5-150W for dimmable LED loads. Each gang switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming modes via the front control knob, allowing the dimmer to be matched to the specific lamp technology without removing the faceplate or re-wiring.

Designed for residential installations where multiple zones of lighting need independent dimming control — typically living rooms with separate ceiling, accent and floor lamp circuits, or kitchens with island pendants, perimeter downlights and under-cabinet strips on separate switches. The 2-way wiring configuration allows the dimmer to be paired with a standard 2-way switch elsewhere in the room, so lights can be controlled from two locations with dimming available at one position. The rotary action provides push on/off and continuous dimming via rotation, giving tactile feedback rather than touch-sensitive control.

The flat plate construction sits only 2.5mm proud of the wall, giving a lower-profile finish than standard dimmers with raised knobs or bezels. The polished chrome finish shows a bright, mirror-like surface that pairs well with modern, contemporary and industrial interiors. Overload and overheat protection shut down the circuit if the load exceeds the dimmer rating or if excessive heat builds up behind the plate. An inrush current limiter (ICL) prevents surges when the circuit is first switched on, extending the life of both the dimmer module and the connected lamps. Each dimmer gang can be trimmed, mode-switched and reset from the front of the plate without removing the cover or accessing the back box.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?

Trailing-edge mode works with most dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen transformers by cutting the trailing edge of the AC waveform. Leading-edge mode cuts the leading edge and suits traditional incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps. This dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge and can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob if needed for compatibility with specific lamp types.

Can I use different lamp types across the three gangs?

Yes, each gang operates independently and can be set to a different dimming mode. However, within a single gang (controlling one lighting zone), all lamps must be the same brand, type and wattage. Mixing lamp types or wattages on a single gang causes flicker, uneven dimming and can damage the dimmer module.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. The flat plate adds only 2.5mm projection from the wall once fitted.

How does 2-way wiring work with a dimmer?

In a 2-way configuration, this dimmer is installed at one switch position and a standard 2-way switch is installed at the second position. Both switches can turn the lights on or off, but dimming control is only available at the dimmer position. This suits rooms where lights are controlled from two doorways, with dimming needed at one location.
