Description
This is the fitting we reach for when a fixed appliance needs its own switch and its own fuse. The plate is finished in copper, with a chrome rocker set at the top and a flex outlet below for the appliance cable. There are no visible screws on the face, so the copper reads as one clean square. Rated at 13A, the rocker gives you one obvious place to switch the appliance off and on, and the fuse carrier sits within the plate itself.
We use these on extractor hoods, towel rails, waste disposal units, boilers and fixed wall lights: anything wired in permanently that still needs isolating on its own. It is the one we suggest where a socket would be wrong, because the appliance is never going to be pulled out and unplugged. Kitchens and utility rooms are the usual homes for it, and it sits happily at the end of a run of matching plates. Keep it to dry indoor rooms on a household supply, well away from bathroom zones and anywhere exposed to the weather.
The plate and switch housing are moulded in ABS with a copper finish, and the build is double insulated. Copper is a warm metal that sits between brass and rose gold in tone, and the chrome rocker gives a small point of contrast at the centre of it. For cleaning, a dry microfibre cloth is all it wants; keep sprays, metal polish and scouring pads well away, since the finish will mark long before the switch itself tires. It carries a ten year warranty. We think it looks best against dark cabinetry or warm timber, with the sockets and switches on the same wall chosen in the same finish.

Frequently Asked
What is the difference between this and a socket?
A socket takes a plug that you can remove. This spur connects an appliance through the flex outlet on the front, so the appliance stays wired in, with a rocker switch to isolate it and a fuse to protect it.
What size is the plate?
It measures 88mm by 88mm on the face, standing 35mm deep including the back box depth, and it weighs 0.11kg.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it has no protection against water, so it is for dry indoor rooms only and should be kept out of bathroom and shower areas.
What rating is it, and what can it run?
It is a 13A switched fused spur, suitable for a single fixed appliance within that rating, such as an extractor, a boiler or a waste disposal unit.
How do I keep the copper looking good?
Dust and fingerprints come off with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid cream cleaners, solvents, scouring pads and any water on the plate, as these can mark or dull the plated finish.
