Description

The Knightsbridge 13A DP key lockable socket provides controlled access to mains power behind a matt white screwless faceplate with a white insert. The key-lock mechanism isolates both outlets simultaneously, preventing unauthorised use when locked. Supplied with two keys and a double-pole switch configuration that disconnects both live and neutral lines when operated.

Designed for hotels, student accommodation, offices, care homes and shared facilities where power access needs to be controlled by staff rather than available to all users. The socket fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and uses a screwless cover plate that clips onto a metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. Both outlets remain rated at 13A when unlocked, handling standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W per outlet.

The matt white finish on premium-grade steel gives a low-sheen surface that resists fingerprints and pairs cleanly with white walls and modern interiors. The white insert behind the faceplate hides the back of the cover plate and provides a defined edge to each outlet aperture. At 4.3mm projection from the wall, the socket sits nearly flush with the surface, reducing the risk of damage from trolleys and equipment in corridors and communal areas.

The key-lock cylinder sits above the outlets and operates a single locking bar that engages both sockets simultaneously. When locked, the shutters remain closed and cannot be opened by inserting a plug. The IP20 rating confirms the socket is suitable for dry indoor locations but not bathrooms, kitchens or outdoor use. Knightsbridge backs the socket with a 25-year warranty covering material and manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

How does the key-lock mechanism work?

The key-lock cylinder sits above the two outlets. When locked, a single locking bar engages both sockets simultaneously, keeping the shutters closed so that plugs cannot be inserted. When unlocked, both outlets function as standard 13A sockets. Two keys are supplied with the socket.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Can the screwless plate be removed for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the socket and re-clipped without re-wiring.

Where is this socket typically used?

Hotels, student accommodation, care homes, offices and shared facilities where power access needs to be controlled by staff. Common locations include corridors, communal areas, meeting rooms and any space where unauthorised appliance use needs to be prevented.
