Description

The Knightsbridge M1100 is a 10AX triple pole fan isolator switch housed in a powder-coated steel metal clad enclosure. The triple pole switching isolates live, neutral and switched live lines simultaneously, providing full electrical isolation when a ceiling fan or extractor fan needs to be serviced or replaced without turning off the entire lighting circuit.

Designed for residential bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and commercial applications where mechanical ventilation requires a separate isolator, the switch sits surface-mounted on the wall or ceiling, with the back box integrated into the 82mm square enclosure. The 45mm projection from the wall includes the back box depth, so no additional mounting box is required. The rocker switch is clearly labelled ON/OFF with a fan symbol, and the white insert contrasts against the metallic grey enclosure for visibility.

The metal clad construction uses premium-grade steel with a durable powder-coated finish that resists impact, moisture and general wear better than standard plastic switches in high-use environments. The 10AX rating handles fan motor loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, which covers all standard domestic extractor fans and most ceiling fans. The switch carries IP20 ingress protection, suitable for indoor dry and damp locations but not direct spray zones in bathrooms. The screw terminals accept standard UK fixed wiring up to 2.5mm² cable.

Frequently Asked

What does triple pole switching mean?

Triple pole switching isolates the live, neutral and switched live conductors simultaneously when the switch is in the OFF position. This provides complete electrical isolation of the fan circuit, allowing safe maintenance or replacement of the fan without needing to switch off the entire lighting ring or consumer unit.

Does it need a separate back box?

No. The metal clad enclosure includes an integrated back box as part of the 82mm square, 45mm deep housing. The switch surface-mounts directly to the wall or ceiling using the two visible fixing screws.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

Yes, but only outside the direct spray zones. The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for indoor damp locations like bathrooms and utility rooms, but it must be positioned outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations. Typically this means mounting the isolator outside the bathroom or on a wall more than 600mm from the bath or shower enclosure.

What cable size does it accept?

The screw terminals accept standard UK fixed wiring cables up to 2.5mm² cross-sectional area, which is the typical cable size used for lighting and small appliance circuits in domestic installations.
