Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 4-gang 2-way switch provides four independent lighting circuits controlled from two locations, housed behind a brushed chrome flat plate with matching metal rockers. Each gang carries a 10AX rating, handling loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains. The 2-way switching configuration allows each circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions — typical for rooms with two entrances or for controlling a single light from opposite ends of a hallway.

Designed for residential and commercial installation where multiple lighting circuits need controlling from a single wall position, the switch suits living rooms with separate ceiling, wall and table lamp circuits, or open-plan spaces where different zones require independent control. The 16mm minimum back box depth makes it compatible with shallow wall cavities and dot-and-dab plasterboard installations where deeper boxes cannot be accommodated. The flat plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall surface once fitted, giving a low-profile finish that works in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

The brushed chrome finish on the premium-grade steel plate provides a soft metallic sheen that resists fingerprints better than polished chrome and pairs well with stainless steel appliances, brushed nickel door furniture and cool-toned contemporary colour schemes. The matching metal rockers integrate flush with the plate rather than sitting on top of it, maintaining the ultra-low profile across the entire fitting. A built-in gasket between the plate and the wall provides dust and moisture resistance to IP20 rating, suitable for dry indoor locations including bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and offices.

Frequently Asked

What does 2-way switching mean?

2-way switching allows each lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions. This is typical for rooms with two entrances (living room with hallway and conservatory doors) or for controlling a hallway light from both ends. Each of the four gangs on this switch can be wired for independent 2-way control.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is required. This shallow requirement makes the switch suitable for dot-and-dab plasterboard installations and stud walls where deeper metal back boxes cannot be accommodated.

What load can each gang handle?

Each gang carries a 10AX rating, handling loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains. This is sufficient for most domestic lighting circuits including LED, halogen and traditional filament bulbs, as well as low-voltage LED driver circuits.

How does the flat plate differ from standard switches?

The flat plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall surface, compared to 8-12mm for traditional raised-plate switches. The metal rockers integrate flush with the plate rather than sitting on top of it, giving a continuous low-profile surface across the entire fitting.
