Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-gang 2-way toggle switch uses a brushed chrome flat plate with matching metal toggles set into individual oval apertures. The plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall when fitted, making it one of the lowest-profile toggle switches available for UK residential installation. The 10AX rating per gang handles loads up to 2,300W, suitable for most domestic lighting circuits including halogen downlights and LED driver loads.

Designed for two-way switching, this switch allows control of the same lighting circuit from two locations — typical installations include hallway lighting controlled from both ends, bedroom lighting operated from the door and bedside, or open-plan kitchen-diner lighting with switches at multiple entry points. Each gang operates independently, so two separate circuits can be controlled from the same faceplate.

The flat plate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a directional brushed finish that diffuses reflections and hides fingerprints better than polished finishes. The built-in gasket between the plate and the back box provides IP20-rated dust protection, preventing plaster dust and debris from entering the switching mechanism during and after installation. The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, shallower than standard switches, making it suitable for installations where wall cavity depth is limited.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between 1-way and 2-way switching?

A 2-way switch allows the same light to be controlled from two locations, such as both ends of a hallway or from a door and bedside. A 1-way switch controls a light from a single location only. This switch is 2-way, so it can be wired as part of a two-location control circuit.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. This is shallower than standard switches, making the switch suitable for dry-lining installations or shallow wall cavities where a 25mm back box will not fit.

Can this switch be used with LED lighting?

Yes. The 10AX rating per gang handles both resistive loads (incandescent, halogen) and inductive loads (LED drivers, low-voltage transformers) within the rated capacity. For best results with dimmable LEDs, pair with a dedicated LED-compatible dimmer rather than a standard toggle switch.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces this flat plate design in polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black, white and stainless steel finishes. Use the site search or category filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
