Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-gang 2-way switch features a brushed chrome flat plate with matching metal rockers, presenting as a single unbroken steel surface with just 2.5mm projection from the wall. The 10AX rating handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W total load across both gangs, covering most residential and commercial lighting applications without requiring a grid system or separate contactors.

Designed for 2-way lighting control, each gang can be wired to operate the same light or circuit from two different wall positions — the standard configuration for staircases, long hallways, and rooms with two entry points. The switch fits a 16mm minimum mounting box depth, making it compatible with shallow dry-lining boxes and solid wall installations where back-box depth is limited. The integrated gasket between the plate and the wall provides IP20-rated dust protection.

The brushed chrome finish is applied to premium-grade steel through a directional brushing process that leaves fine parallel lines across the surface, reducing fingerprint visibility and softening reflections compared to polished chrome. The 87.5mm square footprint is the UK standard single-gang dimension, so a 2-gang unit measures approximately 175mm wide including the plate edge. The metal rockers are colour-matched to the faceplate and click positively into on/off positions with tactile feedback.

Certified to EN 60669-1 and carrying a 25-year warranty, the switch is designed for long-term residential and light commercial use. The earth terminal on the metal mounting frame ensures the faceplate is grounded when connected to a metal back box, meeting Class I earthing requirements for steel faceplates in UK installations.

A minimum 16mm mounting box depth is needed. The ultra-low 2.5mm plate projection makes this switch suitable for shallow dry-lining boxes and installations where space behind the wall is limited.

2-way allows a single light or circuit to be controlled from two different wall positions. This is the standard wiring configuration for staircases and hallways with switches at both ends. Each gang on this switch can be independently wired for 2-way control.

What is the maximum load rating?

Each gang is rated at 10AX (10 amps), which equates to 2,300W per gang on a 230V circuit. This covers most residential and commercial lighting loads without requiring additional contactors or relays.

Is the plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The flat plate is fixed with screws to the mounting frame. The plate can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-fitted without disturbing the wiring connections on the mounting frame behind.
