Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang intermediate switch is a three-way lighting control in a matt black rounded-edge metal plate. It sits between two 2-way switches in a circuit, allowing a single light to be controlled from three separate locations — typically at the bottom of a staircase, on a mid-floor landing, and at the top of the stairs.

Designed for residential staircases, long hallways, and open-plan spaces where lighting needs to be controlled from more than two points, the switch carries a 10AX rating suitable for up to 2,300W of lighting load on 230V mains. The premium-grade steel faceplate measures 87.75mm square with a projection of 7.5mm from the wall once fitted to a standard 16mm minimum back box. The rounded edges soften the profile against walls and reduce the risk of snagging on clothing or bags in narrow hallways.

The matt black finish is a low-sheen powder coat over the steel substrate, giving a fingerprint-resistant surface that pairs well with industrial, contemporary and minimalist interiors. The metal rocker matches the faceplate tone exactly, avoiding the tonal mismatch that can occur with plastic inserts behind metal plates. The switch includes screw terminals for standard UK wiring, an earth terminal for Class I installation, and a built-in gasket behind the plate that improves the IP20 rating by reducing dust ingress around the edges.
