Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang intermediate switch in anthracite is designed for three-switch lighting circuits, where a light needs to be controlled from three separate locations such as top, middle and bottom of a staircase or at multiple points on a long landing. The switch sits between two 2-way switches in the circuit, allowing the light to be turned on or off from any of the three positions.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all fixings once installed and giving a clean finish against the wall. The deep anthracite finish is a near-black grey tone that pairs with industrial, contemporary and monochrome interiors. The 87.5mm square faceplate has a low 4.3mm projection from the wall, maintaining a flush profile.

Rated at 10AX on 230V 50Hz mains, the switch handles lighting loads up to 2,300W and suits both tungsten and LED dimming circuits where the dimmer is positioned at one of the other switch locations. The premium-grade steel construction includes a built-in gasket behind the faceplate for IP20 moisture protection, and the switch is certified to EN 60669-1. Installation requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it compatible with shallow wall cavities.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed for installation. The screwless cover plate adds a 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total 20.3mm depth from the wall surface to the front of the switch.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The anthracite cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and then re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
