Description
The Knightsbridge OSPCKIT is a 10A photocell sensor that automatically switches connected lighting on or off based on ambient light levels, rated IP66 for outdoor installation. The polycarbonate housing contains an adjustable lux threshold (10-50 lux) and mounts on walls or posts via a metal bracket with pre-drilled fixing holes. Two cable gland entries at the base of the unit handle input and output wiring.
Designed for outdoor applications where automatic dusk-to-dawn control is needed, the sensor suits street lighting, car park lighting, garden path lighting, security floodlights and bollard runs. The 10A rating handles loads up to 2,300W on incandescent, halogen or HID lighting, or up to 300W on LED installations. The sensor responds to natural daylight changes, switching connected circuits on when ambient light falls below the set threshold and off again at dawn.
The IP66 rating provides dust-tight sealing and protection against powerful water jets, making the sensor suitable for exposed wall mounting, fence posts and lamp column installation in UK weather conditions. The photocell operates across a -20°C to +40°C temperature range and tolerates humidity up to 93% RH. The adjustable lux threshold lets installers calibrate the switching point to match site conditions — set lower (10 lux) for early activation in shaded areas or higher (50 lux) to delay activation until full dusk.

Frequently Asked
What load can the sensor switch?
The sensor is rated at 10A on 230V AC, which handles up to 1000W incandescent, halogen or HID lighting, or up to 300W LED lighting. The lower LED rating accounts for inrush current on driver-based LED circuits.
How is the lux threshold adjusted?
A dial or potentiometer inside the unit adjusts the switching threshold between 10 lux (activates early, suitable for shaded areas) and 50 lux (activates later, closer to full dusk). See the product manual for the exact adjustment mechanism on this model.
Can it be used with PIR sensors?
Yes. The photocell can be wired in series with a PIR sensor to create a combined dusk-to-dawn and motion-triggered circuit, where the photocell enables the circuit at dusk and the PIR switches the light on only when motion is detected.
What wiring configuration is required?
The sensor has two cable gland entries at the base for input (mains supply) and output (load side to the lighting). Wiring must follow UK regulations for outdoor lighting circuits. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
