Description

This Knightsbridge pull cord dimmer switch uses trailing-edge dimming technology to control loads from 10-150W for incandescent bulbs or 5-100W for LED lamps. The 75mm diameter matt white ceiling rose houses the dimmer electronics, with a 1.5m white braided pull cord and a conical white pull tip for operation. The switch is wired as a 1-way circuit, meaning it controls a single light fitting from one location.

Designed for bathrooms, utility rooms and attic spaces where cord-operated controls are preferred or required under building regulations, the dimmer uses a pull-on/pull-off action for switching and a pull-and-hold operation for dimming up or down. A built-in potentiometer on the dimmer module allows the dimming curve to be adjusted during installation to eliminate flicker with specific lamp types, improving compatibility across LED and incandescent light sources.

The 36mm-deep ceiling rose is constructed from premium-grade steel with an ABS fascia in a matt white finish. The IP20 rating limits installation to dry indoor locations only. The switch is certified to EN 60669-2 and carries Class II double-insulated wiring, so no earth connection is required. The 1.5m cord length suits ceiling heights between 2.4-2.7m, allowing the pull tip to hang at a comfortable reach height of approximately 1.8-2m from the floor.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?

Trailing-edge dimmers switch off the AC waveform at the end of each cycle rather than the start, making them better suited to LED and electronic transformer loads. Leading-edge dimmers work well with incandescent and magnetic transformer loads but can cause flickering or buzzing with LEDs.

Will this work with my LED bulbs?

The dimmer supports LED loads between 5-100W total. Compatibility depends on the specific LED lamp — check with the lamp manufacturer that their product is rated as dimmable and compatible with trailing-edge dimmers. The built-in potentiometer can be adjusted to fine-tune performance and reduce flicker with different lamp types.

Can this be installed in a bathroom?

Yes, but only in zones where IP20-rated equipment is permitted under BS 7671 wiring regulations. The switch is suitable outside bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2, typically meaning installation on a ceiling at least 2.25m from a bath or shower tray. Consult a qualified electrician for confirmation on your specific installation.

What does 1-way mean?

1-way means the dimmer controls a single light fitting from one location only. If you need to control the same light from two different positions (e.g. top and bottom of stairs), you would need a 2-way dimmer circuit instead.
