Description

There is nothing fussy about this one gang socket. The plate is a screwless flat design, so the front face is an unbroken brushed steel square with no visible screw heads, and the chrome insert around the pin holes lifts slightly against the softer grain of the steel. It is rated at 13A and switched, with a rocker to cut the power without pulling the plug out. The brushed sheen is also more forgiving of fingerprints than a polished plate in the same position.

We would use this where a double would be overkill: beside a bed, on a landing for a lamp, in a home office where one appliance lives in one spot, or behind a wall-hung television next to the aerial outlet. It suits kitchens and utility rooms as well, and it is one we reach for when a room already has brushed or satin metal in it, taps, handles and appliance fronts, where a white plastic plate would sit awkwardly. It is often the neater answer in a tight run of joinery, too. It is meant for indoor rooms running on an ordinary household supply, not for anywhere damp or exposed.

The front plate is steel with a brushed finish, and the working parts sit in a moulded ABS body behind it. It is a Class 1 fitting and needs an earth connection. For upkeep, draw a dry cloth along the grain rather than across it; sprays and cream cleaners dull a brushed surface, so we keep them well away from the plate. It carries a ten year warranty. Grouped with other screwless plates, a run of switches and sockets on one wall reads as a single family rather than a set of odds and ends.
