Description

The Knightsbridge 1 gang blanking plate covers unused electrical back boxes behind an 87.5mm square anthracite steel plate with a screwless cover design. The cover clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that fixes to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall surface once installed. A built-in gasket seals the edge of the plate to the wall, preventing dust ingress and giving a defined edge to the aperture.

Designed for residential, commercial and hospitality installation, the blanking plate is used where a back box remains in the wall after a socket or switch has been removed during refurbishment, or where a spare box was installed during first-fix wiring and never used. The 4.3mm projection from the wall surface matches the projection of other Knightsbridge screwless accessories in the same range, allowing multiple plates to sit flush when positioned side-by-side on the same wall.

The anthracite finish is a dark charcoal grey with a low-sheen surface that minimises fingerprints and pairs cleanly with dark-toned interiors, black ironmongery and contemporary architectural finishes. The premium-grade steel construction gives the plate corrosion resistance and mechanical strength to withstand impacts during cleaning and furniture repositioning. IP20 rating confirms protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm, which is standard for dry indoor electrical accessories.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

The blanking plate fits any standard UK single-gang back box with lugs at the standard 60.3mm centres. Minimum back box depth is 16mm, though most standard back boxes are 25mm or 35mm deep.

Is the screwless cover removable for redecorating?

Yes. The anthracite cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is screw-fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the plate and re-clipped without needing to disconnect the earth terminal or remove the sub-frame.

Does the plate need to be earthed?

Yes. The blanking plate includes an earth terminal on the sub-frame. The earth cable from the back box must be connected to this terminal before the cover is clipped on, maintaining earth continuity across the installation.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces screwless blanking plates in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
