Description

The Knightsbridge CU2161 is a 1-gang 2-way leading edge dimmer rated at 40-400W for incandescent lamps or 3-100W for dimmable LED bulbs. The white thermoset resin faceplate has rounded edges and a 7mm profile, giving a softer appearance than standard squared faceplates. A push-to-operate rotary dial controls dimming levels and switches the circuit on or off.

Designed for residential and commercial interiors where dimming control is needed for a single lighting circuit, the dimmer suits living rooms, bedrooms, meeting rooms and hospitality environments. The 2-way wiring allows the dimmer to be paired with a second switch elsewhere on the same circuit, so the lights can be controlled from two locations. The 35mm minimum back box depth fits standard UK single-gang mounting boxes.

The faceplate carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, which reduces bacterial growth on the surface — useful in healthcare, hospitality and high-contact domestic environments such as hallways and bathrooms (IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor zones only). The white finish pairs with standard white switch and socket ranges, and screw cap covers hide the fixing screws once installed. Leading edge dimming suits most incandescent and halogen lamps; compatibility with specific LED bulbs should be checked with the lamp manufacturer before installation.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between leading edge and trailing edge dimming?

Leading edge dimmers work by cutting the front of the AC waveform and are designed for resistive loads like incandescent and halogen lamps. Trailing edge dimmers cut the back of the waveform and typically suit capacitive loads like many LED and low-voltage electronic transformers. This CU2161 is a leading edge dimmer, so compatibility with LED bulbs depends on whether the LED driver can handle leading edge control — check with the bulb manufacturer.

What does 2-way wiring mean?

2-way wiring allows the dimmer to be paired with a second switch on the same lighting circuit, so the lights can be controlled from two locations (e.g. both ends of a hallway or at the top and bottom of stairs). The dimming function operates only from this dimmer unit; the second switch acts as a standard on/off toggle.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating limits the dimmer to dry indoor zones only. It cannot be installed in bathroom zones 1, 2 or 3 where water contact is possible. It may be used outside those zones (e.g. in a hallway adjacent to a bathroom) where the anti-microbial coating is beneficial in high-contact areas.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 7mm faceplate projection is measured from the front of the wall once the dimmer is fitted.
