Description

The Knightsbridge CL2191MBB is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer switch rated for 10-200W incandescent loads or 5-150W LED loads, finished in matt black with a rounded edge metal plate. The dimmer operates via a push on/off rotary control with a matching matt black cap, and can switch between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes to match different dimmable lamp types without replacing the fitting.

Pre-set to trailing-edge mode for LED compatibility, the dimmer includes built-in overload and overheat protection plus a fitted inrush current limiter (ICL) that reduces power surges when lamps are switched on. The 2-way switching configuration allows the same circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions, making it suitable for hallways, landings and larger rooms where control from both ends is needed. The dimmer fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals for fixed wiring.

The matt black finish is a premium-grade steel construction with a low-sheen coating that hides fingerprints and pairs well with monochrome, industrial and contemporary interiors. The rounded edge profile softens the visual impact compared to sharp-edged plates and sits flush to the wall with a 7.5mm projection once installed. The 87.75mm square faceplate matches standard UK single-gang dimensions.

Knightsbridge recommends using this dimmer with a single lamp type and wattage per circuit — mixing different lamp brands, technologies or wattages on the same dimmer can result in uneven dimming performance or flickering. For multi-lamp circuits, ensure all lamps are the same model and rated as dimmable.

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode is optimised for dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen lamps, while leading-edge mode suits traditional incandescent and mains-voltage halogen. This dimmer ships pre-set to trailing-edge for LED compatibility, but can be switched to leading-edge by following the instructions in the datasheet if required for older lamp types.

Can I use this with any dimmable LED bulb?

Most dimmable LED bulbs work with this dimmer, but performance varies by brand and model. For best results, use the same brand and model of dimmable LED across all bulbs on the circuit. Mixing different LEDs can cause flickering or uneven dimming.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The faceplate adds 7.5mm projection from the wall once installed.

What does 2-way switching mean?

2-way switching allows the same lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions — for example, a dimmer at each end of a hallway or landing. This requires the correct wiring configuration between the two switch positions.
