Description

The Knightsbridge FP2191PB is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated for 10-200W loads, or 5-150W when controlling dimmable LED lamps. The rotary knob provides push on/off action and variable dimming control, with the dimmer supporting both trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming modes. Trailing-edge mode is pre-set as the default, optimised for modern dimmable LEDs.

Designed for residential installation in living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways, the dimmer replaces a standard 1-gang light switch where variable lighting control is wanted. The 2-way configuration allows the same lighting circuit to be controlled from two different switch positions, making it suitable for staircases, long corridors, and rooms with two entry points. The front-mounted knob gives access to trim, reset and mode selection without removing the faceplate from the wall.

The polished brass flat plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall surface, with the premium-grade steel faceplate finished in a high-shine brass that develops a natural patina over time. The matching brass dimmer cap maintains a consistent metallic finish across the whole plate. The dimmer includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the surge current when switching incandescent or halogen lamps. The unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals for connection.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode is the default setting and works best with dimmable LED and CFL lamps, providing smoother dimming with less flicker. Leading-edge mode suits traditional incandescent and halogen lamps. The dimmer can be switched between modes using the front-mounted controls without removing the faceplate.

Can this control different lamp types on the same circuit?

No. Knightsbridge advises against using this dimmer in mixed environments where different lamp brands, types (LED vs halogen) or wattages are on the same circuit. Mixed loads can cause inconsistent dimming, flicker or premature failure.

What does 2-way mean?

A 2-way dimmer allows the same lighting circuit to be controlled from two different switch positions, such as at the top and bottom of a staircase or at either end of a long corridor. This requires a second 2-way switch or dimmer at the other position.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The flat plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a low-profile finish suitable for modern interiors.
