Description

The Knightsbridge SF2191MBB is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer that handles 10-200W incandescent or halogen loads and 5-150W LED loads, with automatic switching between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes. The dimmer comes pre-set to trailing-edge mode, which provides smoother dimming performance with most modern LED bulbs, and can be manually switched to leading-edge mode via the front control knob for compatibility with older incandescent and halogen lamps.

Designed for residential installation in living rooms, dining areas and bedrooms where dimming control is needed, the dimmer fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses a screwless cover plate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame. The matt black finish provides a low-sheen surface that pairs with contemporary and industrial interiors, and the matching black dimmer knob sits flush with the faceplate when fully rotated down.

The front-facing control knob allows for manual adjustment of minimum and maximum brightness levels (trimming), mode switching between trailing-edge and leading-edge, and factory reset if the dimmer needs to be reconfigured. Built-in protection includes overload protection, overheat protection and an inrush current limiter (ICL) to prevent damage from sudden current spikes when lamps are first powered on. The dimmer is constructed from premium-grade steel with an IP20 rating for dry indoor use.

For consistent dimming performance, use lamps of the same brand, model and wattage on the circuit. Mixed lamp types or wattages on the same dimmer can cause flickering, uneven dimming curves or premature lamp failure.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode (the factory default) provides smoother dimming with modern LED and low-voltage halogen lamps by cutting power at the end of each AC cycle. Leading-edge mode cuts power at the start of the cycle and is better suited to older incandescent and halogen lamps. Most users will leave the dimmer in trailing-edge mode for LED bulbs.

Can I use this with mixed lamp types or wattages?

No. For consistent dimming performance and lamp longevity, use lamps of the same brand, model and wattage on the dimmer circuit. Mixing lamp types or wattages can cause flickering, uneven dimming or premature failure.

How do I adjust the minimum brightness level?

The front control knob allows you to trim the minimum and maximum brightness levels. With the dimmer powered on, rotate the knob to the minimum position, then press and hold the knob to enter trim mode. Rotate to set the minimum brightness, then release. See the Product Specification Sheet for full instructions.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, with the dimmer mechanism recessed 21.3mm into the back box.
