Description

The Knightsbridge FP2191GM is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated for 10-200W loads (5-150W for LED lamps), housed in a gunmetal flat plate with a matching rotary dimmer knob. The dimmer supports both trailing-edge and leading-edge modes, pre-set to trailing-edge for LED compatibility. The rotary control combines push on/off with rotate-to-dim functionality, giving single-handed control over both switching and brightness.

Designed for 2-way switching circuits where the same lighting circuit is controlled from two locations, the dimmer fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The flat plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once installed, making it suitable for low-profile installations where a traditional domed switch would protrude too far. The front-mounted trimming and mode-switching controls allow adjustment without removing the faceplate from the wall.

The gunmetal finish is a dark grey-bronze metallic tone that sits between graphite and pewter, pairing with industrial, contemporary and monochrome interiors. The premium-grade steel construction includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the initial power draw when switching on LED lamps. The dimmer carries a Class I earth terminal and IP20 rating for dry indoor use.

For best performance, use with dimmable LED lamps of the same brand, wattage and model on a single circuit. Mixing different lamp types or wattages on the same dimmer can cause flickering, reduced dimming range or inconsistent behaviour.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode is optimised for LED and low-voltage lamps, cutting the trailing part of the AC waveform to reduce dimming flicker and hum. Leading-edge mode suits traditional incandescent and halogen lamps. The dimmer is pre-set to trailing-edge but can be switched to leading-edge using the front-mounted control if needed.

Can this dimmer be used in a 1-way circuit?

Yes. The 2-way designation means it supports both 1-way and 2-way switching circuits. For a single switch controlling one lighting circuit, it functions as a standard 1-way dimmer.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The flat plate adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making the total installed depth approximately 27.5mm.

Why should I avoid mixing lamp types on the same circuit?

Different LED lamps have different driver circuits and dimming curves. Mixing brands, wattages or models on the same dimmer can cause some lamps to flicker, others to dim unevenly, or the dimmer to fail to reach full brightness or full dim. Best results come from using identical lamps throughout the circuit.
