Description

The Knightsbridge FP2191BC is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated for 10-200W incandescent or halogen loads, or 5-150W LED loads. The dimmer features a brushed chrome flat plate with a central rotary control knob that provides push on/off and rotary dimming functions. The unit can switch between trailing-edge mode (pre-set, optimised for LEDs) and leading-edge mode via the front control knob, making it compatible with a range of dimmable lamps without rewiring.

Designed for residential, hospitality and commercial installation, the dimmer fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted. The 2-way switching allows the same light circuit to be controlled from two locations — this dimmer at one point and a companion 2-way switch at another. The front control knob also provides trimming and reset functions, allowing the maximum and minimum brightness levels to be adjusted on-site to match the specific lamps being dimmed.

The brushed chrome finish has a directional grain pattern that softens reflections under daylight and provides a cooler metallic accent than brass or copper finishes. The flat plate design uses a premium-grade steel construction with a Class I earthed terminal and IP20 rating, making it suitable for dry indoor areas but not for bathrooms or outdoor use. Built-in overload and overheat protection shut the dimmer down if the load exceeds the rating or internal temperature becomes unsafe, protecting both the dimmer and the wiring circuit.

Knightsbridge recommends using this dimmer with a single lamp type and wattage per circuit — mixing different LED brands, wattages or lamp technologies (LED with halogen, for example) on the same dimmer can cause flickering, inconsistent dimming range or premature lamp failure. What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode is optimised for LED and low-voltage electronic transformer loads, while leading-edge mode suits incandescent, halogen and magnetic transformer loads. This dimmer is pre-set to trailing-edge mode but can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob if your lamps flicker or fail to dim smoothly.

Can I use this dimmer with any dimmable LED bulb?

The dimmer is compatible with most dimmable LED bulbs rated between 5-150W total load. However, not all LED bulbs dim smoothly on all dimmers — check the bulb manufacturer states dimmer compatibility. Knightsbridge recommends using the same brand and model of LED bulb across all positions on the same dimmer to avoid inconsistent dimming behaviour.

What does 2-way switching mean?
