Gaffa tape is one of those things you reach for without thinking, and this roll from Ultra Tape covers the everyday jobs well. It measures 48mm wide and gives you 50m on the roll, so there's plenty to work through securing cables, marking out floors, or holding kit in place on a stage or set. The black finish keeps things discreet, and it's also available in two other colours if you need to colour-code or match a scheme.

The tape uses a 35 mesh cloth backing, which is what gives gaffa tape its strength and that clean, easy tear by hand. There's no need for scissors or a knife, so you can work quickly. The backing is water resistant too, which helps when you're taping down leads outdoors or in damp conditions. At 13 microns thick, it strikes a sensible balance between being tough enough for the job and flexible enough to lie flat over uneven surfaces.

The adhesive is a medium strength type, which is deliberate. It holds firmly while the tape is in use, but lifts away afterwards without leaving the sticky residue you get from stronger tapes. That makes it a good choice for cables and floors where you want a clean pull-up at the end of the day.
