Description

The Thornmere medium pendant is a single light ceiling light with a square Tiffany-style shade, 350mm on each side, built from multicoloured leaded glass panels set into soldered metalwork. The drop adjusts from 425mm to 1545mm, so it will sit low over a worktop or high in a stairwell without looking stranded. It takes one 60W E27 GLS bulb, supplied separately, and it is dimmable with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. At 2.6kg it is light enough for most standard ceiling fixings.

A single pendant this size is useful where a wider fitting would crowd the room. Hang two or three in a line over a kitchen island, put one above a stair return, or use one beside a bed in place of a table lamp. The square shade gives a firmer, more architectural line than a round shade, which helps in rooms with panelling or squared joinery. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor use, so keep it out of bathrooms and away from anywhere it might be splashed.

The glass is cut and leaded panel by panel, so the colour and the run of the seams vary slightly from one shade to another, and we think that is part of the appeal. The metalwork is finished to sit quietly behind the glass, and the chain can be shortened at installation to set the height you want. It is Class 2, double insulated, so no earth connection is needed at the ceiling rose. Wipe the panels with a dry, soft cloth and keep polish away from the solder.
