Description

The Thornmere medium flush ceiling light is the smaller square fitting in this range, 350mm on each side, with a shade of multicoloured Tiffany-style leaded glass and a projection of 185mm. It takes two 60W E27 GLS bulbs, supplied separately, which is generous output for a shade this size and means it works as a main light rather than a fill. It is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer, and the fitting weighs 2.8kg, which is light enough for a standard ceiling fixing.

350mm is a useful size for smaller rooms and tighter ceilings: box rooms, single bedrooms, upstairs landings, a stair half landing, a study, or a hallway where a pendant would catch the door. Because the shade is square, it sits well in rooms with picture rails, panelled doors or fitted joinery, echoing lines that are already there. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or anywhere it might be splashed.

Each panel of glass is cut and leaded individually before soldering, so the colour and the run of the seams vary a little between fittings. The frame and mounting plate are metal, and the shade comes away for bulb changes. It is Class 1, which means an earth connection at the ceiling, and we would have a qualified electrician install it. Dust with a dry, soft cloth and wipe with a barely damp cloth only where needed, keeping sprays and polishes away from the solder. A larger flush light and two Thornmere pendants share the same pattern.
